La Petite Mort – My Tribute to Fracture, an 8+ Year Gathering Place & Labor of Love in Second Life

Fracture, a Second Life club of sorts with a loyal, long-lasting following, was built about eight years ago by the inimitable music curator & DJ extraordinaire, Beta Bates.  It has weathered a lot of changes, but is still going strong.

Fracture’s tagline:

Fracture.  If you’re here you probably know the deal.  Awesome music.  Queer safe space.  All are welcome, but respect your sisters & brothers & others.

When I say “loyal,” I mean that a lot of its regulars have known each other & have been friends for years — many of whom have met each other in real life, and continued friendships and relationships in meatspace as well.

I’ve been lucky enough to know most of the folks there for nearly all of that time and have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few of them face-to-face — including my partner.

The friendships I have forged here are like no other.  Having Fracture as a meeting place has been a constant and a refuge for me for nearly all of my existence in Second Life (10 years this May!)  The people here have made a huge impact on my life for the better, and I am eternally grateful for their love, companionship, and support.

Halloween in July at Fracture (2010)

Some time ago, Jubilant Quakenbush (a close Fracture friend) and I were brainstorming for a collaborative event at Fracture — a themed decor with a collection of music to be played during the event to match the theme — but we never got around to doing it before my PC went kaput.  Since I’ve had the good fortune to use my partner’s laptop for a few months, Jubi & I got around to planning as soon as I was back on the grid — and the timing was perfect to hold it during Fracture’s 8-year anniversary celebration — so, of course I had to go all out.  It happens today (21 February) from 10AM PST – 2PM PST.

Jubi’s announcement for the event:

“La Petite Mort”, an installation by Nebulosus Severine (in collaboration with Jubilant Quackenbush, and with additional music provided by Phant Nabob and Beta Bates) was originally inspired by a conversation about songs with orgasms incorporated into them.

Fracture’s event announcement:

Saturday: to celebrate Fracture’s maturity, Nebulosus Severine and Jubilant Quackenbush have turned the club into an adult fantasy boudior, complete with bordello colors, naughty pictures, lava lamp and a rotating chandelier! Come see the Le Petit Mort instillation and listen to sexy tunes at our 8th Fractureversary Party, 10 AM- 2 PM PDT. Smoking jackets and burlesque outfits would fit in well.
